Nov 5 - Oh So Close ! Suffern Mounties Make Us Proud with Outstanding Performance against the #1 State Ranked Arlington; Fall 2-1 in Title Game
(Suffern, NY) - The season ended with simultaneous feelings of pride and disappointment as the Mountie Men gave #1 Arlington all they could handle in the Section 1 Finals before falling 2-1 on a late Arlington goal.
From Coach Walkely:
To all:
The boy's and my staff would like to thank you all who came out and supported us this evening and all of you who could not make it, but supported in spirit!
It was an exciting high school soccer game. Arlington (#1 in New York State large school and 15th in the country) were victorious by a score of 2-1.
Our boy's played great and had Arlington on their heels with a 1-1 score.
After the game, Arlington head coach told me that we were the best team he faced all year! Our midfielders were creative, our defense well organized and tough with our forwards giving him the nerves! We were all of that tonight!
I am so proud of the boy's and the fans that were present this evening. You gave the boy's and extra encouragement with your presence, cheers and photo shoot!
I and my staff thank you!
We have a scrimmage game with Dewitt Clinton HS from NYC. I am working details out with the coach on Monday. I will keep you posted for one more game with the 2006 Boys Suffern HS Mounties Soccer team!
Nov 4 - Rumble at Cross River: Suffern Mounties to take on #1 Seed Arlington in Championship Game
(Suffern, NY) - Coach Bob Walkely's team has peaked at the right time. As a #6 seed this team was not suppose to be in the final. However with plain old hard work and focus, combined with opportunistic scoring, controlling mid-field play and shutout defense (the cornerstone of championship teams), this team is where it belongs: playing for the title.
Place: Cross River (John Jay HS)
Time: 6 PM
The opponent, #1 seed Arlington, remains a formidable foe and is undefeated in play this season. Please support the Mountie Men as they take on the task of UPSET!
Nov 2 - And Then There Were Two: Suffern Mounties Advance to Section 1 Championship Game With Exciting 1-0 Victory
(Suffern, NY) - The #6 seed Suffern Varsity Boys (14-4-1 overall, 3-0-0 playoffs) dream season continues thanks to another hard fought 1-0 victory over #2 seed Poughkeepsie in Thursday afternoon play at Vassar. The team will now play for the Sectional championship on Saturday Nov. 4th at John Jay HS Cross River at 6 PM.
The Mounties defense remains unscored upon in the Sectionals. The first period goal was scored by Alex Cruz off an assist by Dennis Cordoba.
Oct 31 - Sectional Success! Mounties Advance Again with 1-0 Thriller over John Jay (Cross River)
(Suffern, NY) - The resilent Varsity Boys team (13-4-1 overall, 2-0-0 playoffs) has moved to the next round of the playoffs with another shutout and a 1-0 victory over visiting John Jay (Cross River) in Tuesday afternoon play at SMS.
A hard fought game found the Mounties DEFENSE playing near perfect. Suffern's potent midfield was able to find the back of the net with a pass over the top of a John Jay defender by Marty Paljusevic to Suffern's forward Mike Rhatigan, who put the ball in the net during second half play.
John Jay applied tremendous pressure which our Defense of Mike Sahler, Sean Raible, Adam Golden, Alex Cruz and the help of mid-field player Evan Shreck held up to the task. Keeper Matt Levitus and the 'D" kept their scoreless streak alive for the 2nd straight game and they have given up only 1 goal in their last four games running.
Suffern is in the FINAL FOUR. See below for next game info.
