April 8 - Two Tornado Sightings!  Both RVSC Tornados Teams Start Out Strong

(Suffern, NY)

The Boys Ramapo Valley SC U-18 team (Walkley) played their 2nd game of the spring and came away with a 1-0 win last Sunday April 1st and improved to 2-0-0 on the young season.  They are currently in first place in their group.  Mike Rhatigan scored the lone goal, assisted by Luis Mazariego.  Within the first 12 minutes of play, Dennis Cordoba took a powerful shot at which the same time an opposition tackled Dennis (legally) from the side. Dennis fell and in doing so broke his wrist.  Mr. Frascone and Mr. Hechler took Dennis to Good Sam Hospital, where Dennis received treatment and a cast.   Players on the team from Suffern are: Dennis Cordoba, Robert Kawasaki, James Konicoff, Luigi Maddalena, Mike Rhatigan, Masaru Toyama, Hideki Toyama, Matt Trauner, Mario Frascone, Sean Hechler, Mike Singer, Zach Stoller, Ahmadu Jalloh, Zack Levitus and Matt Wolfson.

The Girls Ramapo Valley Tornados U-19 team (Mitts/Corini) also improved to a 2-0-0 record with a 5-0 blanking of the Ridgefield Royal Strikers on April 1st.  Due to vacations the game started 9 vs. 9 but Linsey Bohlke got our team untracked with 2 quick goals.  Ridgefield added 2 more players for a 9 vs 11 contest with 15 minutes to go in the first half but Mary Gray added another score with a blast inside the right post to make it a 3-0 halftime score.  Kate Wolfe played goal in the first half but was not heavily tested and Linsey Bolhke took over duties in the 2nd half to complete the shutout.  The second half saw similar dominance and Cassandra Viola converted with 15 minutes gone by.  An eventual injury to Mary Gray left the Tornados down to 8 players versus 11 but Kate Wolfe powered one from outside the 18 yard line to complete the scoring with 10 minutes to go.  Strong play from several Suffern varsity players including Jenny de Nicola, Danielle Lahm and Britney Schwartz kept Ridgefield at bay throughout the game.  Suffern JV defensive back Catherine Mitts also kept her side in check and was joined by Aileen Lennon who controlled mid-field play.  The girls moved to the top of their bracket at this early juncture and return to action next Sunday April 15.
