Suffern did not give up even though they could have. They kept playing hard and Alex Tonneli earned a penalty kick after a beautiful flick to get past his opponent. He converted to bring Suffern to within 1 goal and JJEF was playing down a man due to a Red Card. Unfortunately as Suffern pushed most of its players forward, JJ got behind the defense and would score two more goals to put Suffern away. The game was closer then the final score. |
| Sep 17 - Varsity Boy’s Soccer Slides again vs John Jay, Outscored 5-1 (Played Sep 16) (Suffern, NY) – Again Suffern (1-4-0) played a very skillful and tactical game. They stayed with the game plan. However, Jay with their skill was a much faster and powerful team. The score at the end of the 1st half was 5 – 0. The half time discussion was to play for “PRIDE”, for yourself and your teammates! The goal was yes, to try and win the game. But, a realistic goal was to score a goal and not allow any goals against in the second half. Suffern did accomplish the later by scoring one goal and not allowing any against! Charlie Pirc scored for Suffern on a penalty Kick after Jin Lee was taken down in the offensive penalty box. Suffern now falls to 1-3 during the early part of the season. Last season, Jay defeated Suffern by a score of 3 – 2. The Player of the Match was Mikey Austin | |
| Sep 15 - Boys JV A Team Weathers The Weekend, Endures Two Heartbreakers (Arlington, NY) - The Suffern JV A team had a very difficult weekend. Playing some of the best competition in the state, the team lost two heartbreakers. It started Friday at Arlington. The team arrived late because of getting lost on the bus and went down 1-0 in the first half. It was a rainy cold day and footing was hard to come by. The team never gave up and scored early in the 2nd half when Paulo Menendez put one in the back of the net. Danny Small had a huge hustle play keeping the ball alive. The game went into overtime and Suffern lost in the golden goal format. The final score was 2-1.
(Newburgh, NY ) - Sunday night in Newburgh was the exact opposite in terms of weather. The heat and humidity was stifling. Newburgh went up 1-0 three minutes into the game. Suffern (1-3-0) never gave up. Paulo Menendez scored off a nice feed from Alex Tonneli. Unfortunately Newburgh scored another 2 goals. Menendez (from Suffern) scored again, this time off a nice feed from Alex Hyman with 6 minutes left in the game. Suffern has another tough out of league test on Tuesday when the travel to JJ EF. | | Sep 14 - Varsity Girls Lose a Close One, Nipped by White Plains 2-1 (Suffern, NY) - The Lady Lions (0-3-0) continue to improve their play and battled White Plains to the very end before the whistle ended the match with the results one goal short. Several players were unavailable forcing the coaching staff to make various adjustments.
The Mounties got on the board first with a excellent long goal kick by Steph Reimer that cleared midfield and allowed a rushing Besarta Tansuhaj to get a head on it and push forward past the defenders and setup a 1:1 with the White Plains goalie. Besarta easily skirted around her and deposited the ball into an empty net. However White Plains continued to press and, with the help of a non-call on a trip of a Mountie defender to allow possession, were able to knot the score 1-1 just before the half.
Play was even during the second half with many good plays including a goal line clearing play by Suffern's Kelly Moresi to keep the score at 1-1. But with 17 minutes to go, White Plains was able to get a forward loose who scored the game winner. Julie Jefferson made 8 saves in the net for the Mounties who have another 3 games this coming week with Saunders, Lincoln and John Jay Fishkill on the docket. The Player of the Match was Margo Friedland.

| Sep 12 - Webmaster Notes (Montebello, NY) - Be advised that the dates of the headlines on summaries will be when they are entered on the site, not necessarily when the game is played. The reason is to allow returning visitors to see the most recently posted content by date. Games may be posted on the same day played or a day or two after depending on when the summary can be sent in and the webmaster can get around to posting it. We will have over 70 matches to post between now and early November across all the Varsity and JV teams so the site will be fluid. Also as the main page gets too filled older content will be moved to the archive section. Typically we will leave two game summaries per team up on the main page. | |
| Sep 12 - Varsity Boy’s Soccer Falls to White Plains, 3-0 Suffern returns to action on Friday against Arlington HS Friday away at 4:30pm at Arlington HS. (Suffern, NY) – Senior Mario Salas scored in the 13th minute to lead the White Plains Boy’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Suffern at the Suffern HS field. Suffern falls to 1-1. It marked the second consecutive season in which White Plains defeated the Mounties. Last season, WP held off Suffern, 3-2, at White Plains HS. Suffern did not play their game for the first half. During half time, Coaches Walkley and Callanan reminded the boy’s to slow the game down and possess the ball. Not to play long ball and stay composed. The second half was evenly played on the field with Suffern having the better chances to score, but a high energy and tough fearless White Plains defense stifled the Mounties from finishing the scoring chances created! Suffern played well during the second half because they followed through with their game plan. Robert Kawasaki, Charlie Pirc and Alex Immermann had strong consistent play throughout the game. Strong play came from Mario Allegra (Central Defender), who appeared in the second half and was awarded the “Player of the Match” for his fine play! Mario played JV for two seasons. This was his first varsity appearance and of course his first award voted by the coaches and a few players. Next up: Sunday, September 14, at 5:00pm vs. Newburgh Free Academy away at Newburgh.

| Sep 11 - Varsity Girls Downed 8-1 at Mamaroneck (Mamaroneck, NY) The Lady Lions (0-2-0) played much more physically than their first game but the Mamaroneck Tigers (1-0-0) were led by national player Stephanie Velez and jumped to an early 2-0 lead. The Mounties responded with their first season's goal by a nice play from first year-player Samantha O'Brien who was assisted by Kelly Moresi. But the Tigers continued with 3 more goals for a 5-1 halftime score. Mamaroneck's Velez ended up with 4 goals and 1 assist on the day and Abby Baigelman added 2 goals as well for the Tigers. Second half play was better from the Mounties although there were more fouls from the Tigers as well and an eventual yellow card on the Tigers who hit defender Kate Wolfe, the second foul in less than 5 minutes on her. The entire team played very hard but White Plains was an excellent team. The score was 1-0 at half time. The goal was disputed because Jared Chin, who had excellent position on the White Plains player was pushed giving the White Plains player the chance to cross the ball. The second goal was scored off a deflection where goalie Ryan Miller did not stand a chance. Miller played excellent in goal and kept the team in the game for the first 55 minutes. Suffern had a few great scoring opportunities but failed to convert on any of them. The team looks to rebound when they continue their tough schedule at Arlington on Friday. | |

Coach Bob Walkley | Sep 8 - Pre-Season Interview with Coach Walkley (Suffern, NY) - With the season about to start we chatted with Coach W. to get his perspective on the team and the upcoming months. See below for the Coach's thoughts: SSBC: Coach you had a great season last year with another improvement in your record and sectional seeding. With the loss of some key graduating seniors how do you feel about the upcoming schedule? Our schedule is very challenging. Our boy's are working very hard. It is our desire to try and win the league.
SSBC: Which teams do you do you see as our main competition? In our league: Clarkstown North; North Rockland and Ramapo.
SSBC: Do you feel the overall Suffern soccer program has built the depth it needs to remain a sectional powerhouse over the next few years? No, not enough of the boy's are playing full time club soccer and not enough of the boy's are working on their overall strength.
SSBC: Are you changing any of your formations or positions for any players? Yes, we have moved to a 4-3-2-1 formation.
SSBC: Will there be more night games this year now that the new turf field is in place at the Middle school? Right now we have 3 home night games. North Rockland. Pine Bush. Clarkstown North
These games are based on if the visiting team wants to play us on turf, under the lights. The games at the middle school are to be on weekends. Otherwise we are to use the high school grass soccer fields. |

| Sep 9 - Varsity Boys Kick off Strong, Outduel Clarkstown North 1-0 (Pomona, NY) – Senior Mark Pulijusevic netted the decisive goal -- the only score of the match and the first goal of his senior year -- to lift Suffern HS boy’s varsity to a 1-0 victory over conference rival Clarkstown North in Suffern’s season opener. Pulijusevic one-timed a flicked on ball by Christian Dominguez with his right foot from inside the 6-yard box past the Rams goalkeeper Dan Nicinski (7 saves) at the 33:00 minute of the second half. The game was played at Eugene Levy Park. Suffern (1-0-0), will face White Plains HS on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 4:30pm at the Suffern HS Field. Clarkstown had perhaps its best scoring chance late in the first half on a miscommunication between the Mounties goalie (Jason Dinces) and defender (Zac Croce) as a shot was played to the far posted only to have Defender and “Player of the Match” Forest Valow-Picarello block the shot from entering the goal! Suffern’s game winner came after several second-half scoring opportunities which saw both teams play most of the match evenly. Junior goalkeeper Jason Dinces registered 5 saves to earn his first victory - and first shutout - of the season.
The “Player of the Match” was Forest Valow-Picarello. Other considerations were Robert Kawasaki, Alex Immermann and Mark Pulijusevic.
Game Notes: Charlie Pirc, last year’s Rockland County Player of the season, was held scoreless. Charlie’s presence and play on the field was exciting. Teams, their players and coaches will concentrate on stopping Charlie’s scoring opportunities. |
