| Dec 9 - Tis' The Season (Suffern, NY) - Well it truly is the season. The 2008 soccer season has concluded and the calendar year is almost over too. 2008 was another strong year for Suffern Soccer, as the Boys gathered 2 league titles while the Varsity Girls gained some sectional success. 2009 promises to be an equally good year. As many of the senior turn their attention towards colleges, we are happy to report that Charlie Pirc will continue his soccer career at Bucknell in Pennsylvania while Stephanie Reimer will mind the nets for Northeastern in Boston. We wish them much success and look forward to following their collegiate results over the next 4 years. There are also a few other seniors that may play next year so stay tuned as those become official in the winter/spring months. Lastly, Tom and Ginny Wolfe would like to thank the parents, players and Booster Club for their generous gifts during the annual dinners and for these excellent years in the program. We look forward to following the continued success of a great group of players and coaches in the years to come. Seth Singer will be the Booster Club President in 2009 while Bruce Miller and Karen May will be helping as treasurer. They will do a great job and please give them your support. But mostly: Enjoy your upcoming holidays! | |

| Nov 3 - Modified Girls White ends season on a high note!!!
(Suffern, NY) - The Girls Modified White team redeemed themselves by defeating Nyack 2-0. Everyone played with their hearts and showed Nyack their true colors. Both goals were scored during the first half by Claire Leone and Aishlinn Keane. Assists were made by Rebecca Peltz and Claire Leone. This gave the girls the confidence they needed to secure a victory. Erica Grosser made over 9 incredible saves and there were over 20 shots on goal, the most the team has had all season.
MVP of the game, Erika Negron carried the team with her huge kicks and awesome defensive skills. Ashley Murphy kept things moving up front on offense with her quick feet. Mackenzie Meldrim and Nicolette Savino had their best games of the season in midfield. Hayley Napier, Caroline Kinsley and Ana Inoa played solid defense to help feed the ball up to the offensive players. Even though Julie Conway was not able to make the game, the team knew she was rooting for them. All of the 8th graders showed true leadership on and off the field today. They will be missed next year as they move onto High School. 7th graders, Erica Grosser, Danielle Dgheim, Claire Leone, Rebecca Peltz, Aishlinn Keane, Alena Gallagher, Katie Hahn, Brianna VanDorpe, Katie Obojkovits, Laura Stedge, Alyssa Rainford and Becky Scherwatzky all proved that they are ready to lead the team next year. With true Suffern spirit, the girls concluded the game by dumping 2 buckets of water on Coach Zelem. Through all the wins and the losses, all of the girls on the Modified White team developed into devoted soccer players. Congrats to Coach Zelem for completing her first season as Modified soccer coach. She is looking forward to seeing all of you next year.

| Nov 2 - Suffern Girls Win Section 1 Volleyball Title for 2nd Year in a Row Congratulations to another Suffern Varsity team! From Louhud.Com - See full story at http://www.lohud.com/article/20081102/SPORTS02/811020387/1110 (CROSS RIVER, NY) - Christa Baccas wanted to make regionals, and the only thing standing in her way was Arlington and a fifth game. Baccas stepped up to the net ready to extend the Mounties' season. And with a 25-19, 15-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-13 Section 1 Class AA championship win, Baccas and the rest of her Suffern teammates had their wish come true. "We played so well this whole season, and we're a good team," the sophomore said. "I didn't want this to be over, I wanted to keep going. This is my first year (on the team), and I didn't want to stop." Suffern, which has won two straight sectional titles, advanced to the state regional quarterfinals on Tuesday at Corning West High School in Painted Post at 6:30 p.m. After opening with a win, the Mounties (19-2) needed a turnaround when they dropped the next two games and fell behind in the fourth, a season on the brink of ending. Down by one late in the game, Melanie Cohen came in off the bench to serve and tied the score at 22-22. The Mounties took a 24-23 lead before taking the game and staying alive. "After each point, I would go up to each girl and say 'Be confident in what you do,' " captain Rebecca Aarons said. "Their nerves were overcoming them, and they needed to stay confident." Pulling out the fourth game gave the Mounties the needed adrenaline boost and they won the fifth game out easily thanks to serving by Aarons, Jackie Berks, Jessica Crowley and Kristin Schmidt, who got the game to 24-12. With their serving back in place, the Mounties' hitters also got more confident. Baccas had two blocks and a kill early in the game to help the Mounties gain a 10-6 lead. She led Suffern with 16 kills and six blocks. Jenna Hrycyk and Schmidt also stepped up their hitting. |
